Cops checking the blood alcohol content on drivers

The thing you often hear and see in movies are that suspected drunk drivers are to recite the alphabet backwards (which is damn hard sober), walk a chalked line on the ground (something Phil Heath wouldn't pass lol) and put fingers on your nose etc.. I mean come on, is it for real in America? Was it ever real?

Aren't these extremely unsofisticated tools of determing alcohol consumption? Or is that just how you do it over there? Sounds like the stone age

Yes it came sometimes in the sixties I think. And I have been tested as long as I can remember. But these mythical tests that I described is used in movies and shit. Did they stop doing these a long time ago or..?

Yes they set you up to fail, as you say those things would be difficult to do sober.
