I really don't think that sort of thing would ever apply to what you typically see on this board. Obvious satire involving public figures is not the same thing as false factual statements regarding a publicly-traded company. Likewise, opinions, predictions, or questions, no matter how nasty, are not factual statements, and therefore cannot be construed as slander.
GoatGirl....
very good.....public figures can almost never sue on defamation via public statements.......as Goatboy pointed out-even if they do turn out to be
false.....See
New York Times v. Sullivan..............opinions cannot give rise to a claim of defamation either......Goatboy-have you been to law school?
Otherwise........That is a very good understanding of free speech/defamation issues for a lay person.....
Muscletech did sue elite fitness IIRC and sued or threatened to sue bb.com.
Internet posting boards are absolutely immune from prosecution for defamatory statements posted on their web sites (AOL Case, will have to find it), per federal law. So BB.com, Getbig.com and all others similarly situated have no fear of getting civilly prosecuted for a defamatory statement.
Lawsuits and lawyers are for pussies. I think we should bring back the duel of honor.
I agree, take those fucking pussie lawyers out and shoot their dumb ass........
