Even though the talent-packed starting five will not be playing with each other until a few months into the season, World Peace told ESPN that the Lakers are looking to go 73-9.
The record for the best regular season record belongs to Michael Jordan and his Chicago Bulls who went 72-10 in the 1995-96 season. Some say that was the greatest team to ever be assembled. but Metta World Peace is looking to dethrone that Bulls team.
“We definitely want to beat the Bulls record and go 73-9, that’s definitely something that I want to do. Whoever is out there at the beginning of the season then we gotta get it. It’s as simple as that. We just have to go get it.The Lakers will eventually have Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard join World Peace, a team on paper that could certainly challenge the 72-10 mark. Still, a lot of work must be put in place for the Lakers to hold the record for the most wins in a regular season.
Defense will be key for the Lakers to beat the record set by the Bulls. Jordan and his teammates prided themselves on that end of the court and they never took a day off. The Lakers are capable of going 73-9, but they must make sure they have a championship mentality each time they hit the court.
