The AP is reporting that former Pro Bertil Fox was executed on friday for the double murders on the island of St Kitts.
That's news to me, Chucky. I attended both of Fox's trials in
St. Kitts for Sports Illustrated magazine, and interviewed the poor
wretched creature several times. To my knowledge, and mind you it
is NOT current for 2006, Fox's death penalty was rejected in the appeals
process by the Privy Council in Great Britain. On the grounds that
the island, the smallest country in the world which has been under
British rule and legal supervision since the slave-trading days, must
start taking responsibility for deciding its own criminal penalties. Left to
England to decide, Fox's penalty was commuted to life imprisonment.
England, after all, is opposed to the death penalty. Although they
passionately believe in the death penalty for every degree of homicide committed in their little country, the warden of the St. Kitts prison indicated to me
that their government will abide by the Privy Council's decision.
