I'm too lazy to look it up, but didn't the nail-painting thing among MMA'ers come from wrestlers who paint just their toe nails because many have scary looking toe nails from the fungal issues they picked up from the mats?  I seem to remember Frank "twinkletoes" Trigg talking about this somewhere.
