If you think it's a good idea to just tell everyone you're getting involved with your darkest secrets including admitting to breaking the law (which possession and use is in my country, no grey area) that's your choice. I wouldn't do it, simply because it can backfire (and almost has for me once). Has nothing to do with being paranoid or afraid of "letting people in", it's just the smart thing to do in my opinion. Social acceptance plays a part here, too. You could easily admit to smoking pot or getting drunk 4 times a week, steroids are a whole different ballpark as far as most people are concerned.
