At first I got all riled up at the shitty parenting here. Letting the kid pose like an idiot with the gun he used to assault others, saying it was okay because "I was still on MY PROPERTY". Or, well, 70 feet from my property.
My bad. Screw all that. The kid hit others with pellets from a pellet gun. Charge him with assault. Period. Lock his ass up. If a 12 year old shoots me with a pellet gun, I'm calling 911 and pressing charges, same if a 30 year old does it. Cause if you don't stop it at 12, he'll be the idiot at 18, firing a shotgun in the air to celebrate, thinking 'warning shots' are common etiquette, and all sorts of other nonsense.

Boys will be boys. As kids we all fucked up, fell out of trees, got into fights, knocked doors and ran away. Maybe you didn't. Maybe all the other kids thought you were weak and bullied you, maybe you never went out. Maybe you were a good little altar boy always doing what mommy and daddy said.
As for a 12 year old hitting you with what is really a BB gun and you running off to the police - really? The police? PMSL! I'd perhaps consider going to see a parent but most likely I'd let nature take it's course 'cause the kids going to get his ass beat for that at some point.
