Looking for a TV

Looking for a decent TV for movie watching only. I won't be using it to watch actual TV, just BluRay and possibly stream from Apple TV down the line. Not yet made up my mind on that

I've zero interested in 3D. But I do understand that Sony only makes 3D TVs now which is a shame as it bumps the price up something silly on their new lines.

Been looking at either Sony or Sharp. But willing to look at other brands too if you guys can recommend something good.

As I'm not a Getbig billionaire I'm only going to pay up to a 55'. I'm waiting for 4k to become widely used and make the jump over to that then. Therefore dropping 4-5k on a 1080p now won't be something I'm going to do.

LED or Plasma I don't know yet. I understand the differences between them but not I'm not swayed in either direction yet.

Bodybuilding related; I'll live stream the Arnold Classic this year.

When I bought mine, Samsung was top rated. I have 3 in the house and never had an issue. My oldest one is 4yrs old. Have a 60" (living room), 55" (man cave) and 42" in the bedroom. Last two bought off of craigslist for REALLY cheap. If I remember correctly the 42" Samsung (1080) was 2yrs old and I got it for $125

Just buy anything sony, samsung, panasonic,lg.As long as they are 1080p its all much and muchness these days with diminishing returns past the basic models.

When I bought mine, Samsung was top rated. I have 3 in the house and never had an issue. My oldest one is 4yrs old. Have a 60" (living room), 55" (man cave) and 42" in the bedroom. How does Sony compare to Samsung? I understand their brand image and marketing are top notch (and reflect in the price) but how are they in real value?

I'm a huge Samsung fan but here's a few reviews of different options.  They all have great pictures so you have plenty to chose from.  The key is to check them out and see what you like.

I have 3 Samsungs currently and I'm 100% satisfied with them.  But there are many great options these days. Stick to the name brands and you really can't go wrong.

Yep I read that but the choice is doing my head in. So much to choose from. I kinda wish there were only one REAL choice on the market

agreed. Get a name brand that is true hi-def and spend left over on surround sound man 

Again, go to repair shop and get a refurbished one for a good deal or go used. Warranty on new ones suck anyhow.

Its all about the panels these days, most of them use the same panels, some people like ips panels best, some prefer mva, some prefer oled screens, some like tn.All have their advantages and disadvantages.They all pretty much get the same panels but use different software on their tv operating systems, and obviously use different housing with their own branding.Best bet is to go to a store, find out which tvs you like best, find out what panels they have.

I might have to do that. Then there's only the Plasma v LED thing to concern myself with. I can get obsessed with making the right choice and end up buying nothing

If you don't want 3d you can get a 70 inch for under 2 grand.
