Head of DHS: They (Illegals) EARNED the right to be citizens
« on: January 27, 2014, 05:29:33 AM »
Apparently, if someone ILLEGALLY enters the country and ILLEGALLY remains in the country, somehow they LEGALLY, EARNED the right to become a citizen.

That is what the new head of DHS stated. Of course, he tried to make some kind of distinction by mentioning people who illegally entered the country when they were children. As if that justifies breaking the law.

“It is also, frankly, in my judgment, a matter of who we are as Americans,” he said, “to offer the opportunity to those who want to be citizens, who’ve earned the right to be citizens, who are present in this country--many of whom came here as children--to have the opportunity that we all have to try to become American citizens.”

In the same speech he contradicts himself:
The five core missions of the Department of Homeland Security are guarding against terrorism, securing our borders, enforcing our nation’s immigration laws, safeguarding cyberspace and critical infrastructure in partnership with the private sector, and supporting emergency preparedness and response efforts at every level,” Johnson said.

Can you explain better why you think he contradicts himself?  It seems to me that in his first statement he was offering his personal opinion (that we are the type of Americans who would offer citizenship to people who are here and want to be citizens) and in the second statement he was listing the aims of DHS.

Now, you can argue that the head of DHS shouldn't be offering personal opinions counter to one of the core goals of the DHS but that doesn't mean he's contradicting himself, does it?

In other parts of the speech he claims that DHS' job is to have illegals come "out of the shadows." He is representing DHS. He might think that is something DHS should do but it isn't. Because it is DHS job to make people "come of the shadows" AND DEPORT THEM, NOT LEAVE THEM HERE.

Your mistake is that you believe he can seperate his opinions from his duties as the head of DHS. Newsflash. If you read the article, you can see that this person wants to completely change what DHS should be doing into what he WANTS it to do. Which is NOT ENFORCING IMMIGRATION LAWS and keeping people here who are illegals. That is not what DHS was intended for.

So yes he contradicted himself. He shouldn't be thinking about how to get around the laws to keep criminals here. He should be like Sheriff Arpaio. Doing EVERYTHING HUMANLY possible to make it very, very uncomfortable for illegals to remain here. He should be coming up with improved methods of capturing them and deporting them ASAP.  If he doesn't believe in that, then he should quit.

I think you've failed to take into consideration that neither DHS nor any other alphabet agency, or gov't dept. works for you, or your interests. They are there to administer the wishes of their corporate overlords, ...and they WANT undocumented workers. What the corporate campaign contributors want, the corporate campaign contributors get.

From what you've written, he does not contradict himself but offers his opinion which is not inline with his alleged duties.  And you think that's bad (which is reasonable, I guess).  I agree with you that maybe that means he should not be in that job but need to add that it's not entirely unheard of for Department heads to have opinions that run counter to the job's goals.  (Like Holder not prosecuting MJ folks in Colorado.)  Part of being a leader, is what I imagine he thinks.

BTW, ease up with the capitalization.  I can't for the life of me imagine why "humanly" was capitalized, lol.

It's no different than robbing a bank and saying they earned that money.

The federal government does not represent the american people, and it does not act in their interest. They dont even pretend to anymore.
