does the body want to be exhausted ??
« on: February 21, 2014, 11:25:13 AM »
i work a 4 ten hour workweek. on my days off, i get up at 6:30 am and do one hour of treadmill. later in the day i go to the gym and lift for my normal 50 minute workout.
after two days of this, im pretty much hammered. body is sore, muscles ache, knees hurt. buy my theory is that the body wants to be hammered, wants to be overtrained.
i eat enought food for the workouts, so food is not a problem.

does the body want to be abused??  (serious post)

Trousers pull down to knees try to run and trip over then you are mounted and ass pounded mercilessly with punches to the head, hope that is enough abuse for you.

I worked all combinations of crazy hours and kept my workouts in. When I was working it was work, workout and early sleep. I worked one year recently where I woke up at 3:30AM and drove 105 miles to work. Worked 10 hours then drove home. I was lucky I was allowed at work to get in a half hour of cardio in. As soon as I got in the door I changed and went into my basement gym. I then was in bed at 8:30P. It was a disciplined work week. I had three days off a week and that's when I could workout and have a beer.

Larry Scott would work 8 hours a day. Then work out for two hours then go to school at night. He said in effect he had better workouts due to the strict structure of his day. Sergio Oliva when he was Mr. Olympia was working long hours in various physical labor jobs. He then became a cop for 25 years.

Imagine if you didn't have a job and could work out at whatever time you wanted. Sounds like  Nirvana for training but it's also easy to get into a lazy and undisciplined life that would effect your training life.

When you are young you think you can get away with 4 hours of sleep and partying to many days. It catches up with you in a very sneaky way you don't see coming. That's when exhaustion will ruin your workouts and your body. I remember being 21 drinking in the clubs till 4 in the morning trying to get a back workout in the next day. Just youthful foolishness that I'm sure most will have to learn on their own.

Historically, in terms of survival, exhaustion would have been a state to be avoided at all costs.  Under certain conditions it would have meant certain death when exposed to predators or enemies.  In modern day terms, it is equally ridiculous to deliberately exhaust oneself, it hinders one's ability to perform well and exposes you to greater risk ie: driving, poor decision making etc etc. The OP must be young, as overextending yourself to the point of exhaustion is something excitable young folk do.

Most of people gain energy from workout, so you have done something wrong. Maybe you are facing symptoms of overtraining, high pulse, bad sleep, feel of weakness. If so, why don't you stop trying to invent wheel all over again, and start using some common sense in your training?
