actually it's the military decision, making way for the new missle
(LRASM), which will receive most of  the funding from the Tomahawk program

From the link:

As reported in the Washington Free Beacon, “President Barack Obama is seeking to abolish two highly successful missile programs that experts say have helped the U.S. Navy maintain military superiority for the past several decades. The Tomahawk missile program—known as “the world’s most advanced cruise missile”—is set to be cut by $128 million under Obama’s fiscal year 2015 budget proposal and completely eliminated by fiscal year 2016, according to budget documents released by the Navy. The Navy will also be forced to cancel its acquisition of the well-regarded and highly effective Hellfire missiles in 2015, according to Obama’s proposal.”

read that entire article.  They make fun of him a bunch.  It's not exactly unbiased LMAO...

Now, if you read an actual account of the events, you'd see the $ is still getting spent, just on newer missile systems.  And we have more tomahawks than we know what to do with right now, and they'll last at least another 4+ years just from the inventory we have now.

http://www.businessinsider.com/death-of-tomahawk-and-hellfire-missile-program-2014-3

Anyone who thinks we're going to run out of missiles is crazy.
Anyone who thinks obama is slashing the spending, is just plain wrong.

What he's doing it buying newer, more expensive missiles that are much harder for the enemy to knock down.

there are 1000 reasons to shit on obama, but buying newer, better missils systems and phasing out the old one?  Nope.

I saw this elsewhere...there's a gap between when the new one will be ready and the older programs. I suspect Obama is not aware of either program. I bet he knows more about the Ping series of golf clubs then he does about any single major piece of military equipment in our inventory.

does anyone here legitimately believe one day we're going to wake up and say "OMG, we're totally out of missiles!"

???

Like, we all know obama sucks... but is it really the case that message board warriors are going to say "oh, oh, we're gonna be out of missiles in 5 years and nobody in DC have noticed!!!"

Are the facts stated in the source wrong?

Included in this article are sentences like this one:

"Hey America, we sure did pick one heck of a doozy for President, let’s learn a very important lesson and not repeat this faux pas again!"

Also, the author has said ‘We Should Be Censoring American News Agencies’

So really, I don't know what is fact and what is opinion and what is assumption and what is outright batshit crazy there.

Is this false?

So its a "proposal" not something that's in effect?

I would think that the military wouldn't let that happen if it left them less capable in the interm before another missile was in service.

Maybe, although its factual as a proposal, its being spun a bit

True.  The headline should say Obama "attempting" to end, etc.  Doesn't really change anything though.

A "bit"?

The entire article is a circle jerk on "obama sucks".

The author makes the leap of faith that it'll take 15 years to replace the tomahawk.  That alone should qualify this article as fiction.

Obama is eroding rights, and obamacare totally sucks, and he let benghazi happen, etc etc... but that being said... he's still spending $ on war toys like crazy, and that ain't gonna stop.  He's killed way more bad guys than bush, he's been using drones way more, he's way more bloodthirsty and evil than bush ever was.  so all this whining about obama buying bigger/better missile systems?

I could equally imagine a thread called "obama sticks with old tomahawks, refuses to embrace new missile technology", had obama NOT made this move.

I agree.  Still doesn't change what he is trying to do.  Or that headhunter is probably right that he doesn't know his head from his rear end when it comes to the military.

I agree.  I don't see this going anywhere though.  they are not going to decrease capability with a munition with out a timely replacement.

Shut the fuck up...the Tomahawk and Hellfire are about 40 years old.  They are being replaced as they are no longer as effective as the latest technology.  Null issue

Probably not the same technology inside them over the years.

But i think we will see scram jet technology in some sort of hypersonic missile.

sounds like common sense.... to trade out defense systems every few years.

considering our enemies are searching for vulnerabilities in them all the time... why not use a new tactic every few years?

Do we use the same password on our email for 15 straight years?  No, you change it from time to time.  imagine russia planting spies at companies, letting them work their way up the ranks to learn our weapons, see how to defeat them.

Then again, the same people praising Putin will probably support such measures :(
