The winner of this year's Miss USA pageant has sparked outrage for advocating self-defence as a solution to sexual assault.

Beauty pageant contestants being attacked by feminists is nothing new. That may be one reason that these days, along with modelling various outfits, pageant competitors are quizzed about women's issues.

At this year's Miss USA contest on Sunday, Miss Nevada, Nia Sanchez, was asked a tricky question.

One of the judges of the competition, Rumer Willis, the daughter of US actor Bruce Willis, asked: "Recently Time Magazine said 19% of US undergraduate women are victims of sexual assault in college. Why has such a horrific epidemic been swept under the rug for so long and what can colleges do to combat this?"

Miss Nevada, 24, responded: "Myself as a fourth degree black belt, I learned from a young age that you need to be confident and be able to defend yourself and I think that's something we should start to implement for a lot of women."

The critical tweets began before the competition had even ended. "I'm sorry Nevada just lost my support. We should teach women self-defense to prevent sex crimes?" tweeted Maggie Miller. "Uh, how about we teach men not to rape."

Morons. Its obvious that we should try to teach men not to rape. But the fact of the matter is that it will happen. In the mean time, its a good idea for women to learn how to defend themselves. I mean, its not like the rape problem is going to get fixed tomorrow, so  I am all for women learning how to defend themselves, until we find a better solution.

The reason why is because it's their way or the highway. Only their logic reigns supreme and men are the enemies. Teach men not to rape? That is just like teaching people not to rob or kill. But, like you said, people still do it. Most people know that it's bad (rape) but there are the eff ups and evil mofos in the world and all the anger management and sensitivity classes in the world cannot change these people. They are going to do what they want to do. And in the mean time, women need to protect themselves from that type of violence. Just like men and women need to protect themselves from other types of violence, like robbery and murder.
Mind you, self the defense in conjunction with prevention and punishment would be the better solution. Not just one method, but combine all.
