Making gains working graveyard?
« on: September 05, 2014, 04:53:17 PM »
Just started a graveyard job and am tired as shit yet can't sleep. I hope my body adjusts so I can fit in gym time at least 3x a week. How was working graveyard for you?

You just don't sleep the same way during the day: 2 hrs here, an hour and 1/2 there.

Then, on your days off, you still stay up all night.

I worked graveyard years ago for a few weeks before I quit, the best thing to do is go straight to the gym after work that way you will be tired when you get home, take a shot of c4 or one of these pre workout drinks if you dont have enough energy to lift.

Graveyard doesn't bother me. In fact I prefer it. Sleeping 8 hours and getting up at 5am is hard for me. Sleeping 6 and getting up at 5pm is easy. No jackoffs telling me how to do the job, stays cool, better pay. If absolutely necessary I can get crap done during the day without calling out. Hit the gym at 530am wen no one is there.

Grave is ok when young but when you get in your 30's it's time to move to days.

Soft cun.t...... I do 7 12hr shifts when I do nights, and its all heavy manual work as im a fitter in a ship yard.. 5 gym sessions a week, and i sleep like a baby afterwards..

Same method as the mythological trainer, get home, quik bite to eat, cook my daughtrs breakfast, then off to train, home, more food, shower and bed with the ear plugs in...

I always work nights when there available, much more money, less hassle at work.. Good for sticking to diets too...

Man up!

A bit over two years. I actually liked the working at night part. As others have mentioned, there are fewer people to deal with. It was the sleeping during the day that was the problem. Where I lived was pretty busy during the day. There was always a chance I'd come and there would be jack hammering going on.

For working out, I'd try to catch a few hours of sleep after work, lift in the afternoon, have dinner, then try and get some more sleep before work.

It can be done. It's just not optimal.

^^ That's me in a nutshell.  I don't have to deal with management and I spend 2-4 hours reading getbig.com.

Itll be rough for 2-3 weeks. I started a new job about 2 months ago and went to swing.... i barely could force myself into the gym and diet went to shit.... couldnt find a routine to sleep or cook, training intensity dropped. After 2 weeks, i started to adjust and things went back to normal.

then they moved me back to 1st for a month for training, same deal, exhausted all the time, not sleeping well, diet went to shit.... now, 3 weeks in, still exhausted, barely gotten a routine down, eating half assed..... then next week i go back to 2nd again so itll be another 2 or 3 weeks to re adjust.

Itll take time but youll tind a rhythm. I suggest melatonin to helo regulate your sleep cycle and black iut sheets over the windows.... my friend that worked graveyard had good success doing that.

I was in the best shape of my life when I worked a 4:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. shift.

Time is man made. The mind/body is what YOU make of it.
