Accurate and sides
« on: September 17, 2014, 11:10:47 PM »
So I'm thinkin of getting accutane from some research chem website and I'm askin you guys with experience if it is worth it. My acne is pretty bad and it gets worse seasonally.
Since it's not with a doctor is it worth the potential harm? Seems fine to me

??? Why not get it from the doctor?  Liver values need monitoring on this drug.

It has been a boon for me. My doctor had the good sense to start me on a low dose (actually very low for my weight since the total cumulative dose depends on body weight and I'm 6'5 250) and within 6 months I achieved over 90% clearance with the only side effects being dry lips, face, and nose (inside). Bloodwork is looking good. I'm at about 5 grams total now and my target dose is somewhere between 11 an 12, so I might still have to take it for a while, but if that keeps the sides at bay I'm more than happy to do it.

That being said, it's a dangerous as fuck drug and if used improperly can lead to all sorts of nasty side effects. People who get started on too high a dose will sometimes develop acne fulminans (google it) for example. Not to mention the myriad of other minor and major possible side effects. I'd strongly advise you see a doctor if your acne really is that bad. But since people will do whatever the hell they want anyway, should you decide to take it on your own, make sure you

1. Calculate your total dose and take it until you get there. Stopping early increases the recurrence rate dramatically. 110mg/kg bodyweight. Just because your skin cleared up doesn't mean it will stay that way if you don't see it through (and even then there's no guarantee)
2. Start low. Maybe do 10-20mg a day until your first bloodwork is in. Go up gradually and test your tolerance. Increase dose in accordance with your bloodwork. If bw looks like shit, stay at your current dose or even lower it.
3. Get bloodwork done on the regular. Every 4 weeks, in the beginning maybe every 2 weeks.

It is upwards of $500/month for the medicine alone where I am.

Thanks for the serious response. Glad to hear it has worked so well for you. I'm still not 100% sure what I'll do but this has given me some perspective.
