On conviction in the district court, a sentence of up to one year could be imposed.

However, if found guilty by a jury in the circuit court, a defendant could be jailed for up to five years for making a false report to gardaí.

Ms De Oliveira did not address the court and listened to the proceedings with the assistance of a translator.

Earlier, the district court had been told that as a result of the woman's alleged claim, no one was charged but "it came very close" and gardaí expended "significant resources".

The young woman came to Dublin on a student visa and had been living with a number of people, including her boyfriend, for several months.

As a condition of bail she also has to reside at her current address in Blackrock, obey an 11pm to 7am curfew and be contactable by mobile phone.

She has already surrendered her passport to gardaí and is not allowed to apply for a new one or any travel documents.

I was surprised to learn the percentage of sexual assault reports that turn out to be bogus.. But then again, the estimated number of actual sexual assaults that go unreported is surprising as well..

There was a case here in Scotland a few years ago where a guy who'd been falsely accused of rape (the woman admitted she'd lied and he was rightly cleared) campaigned for accused to be allowed the same anonymity granted to accusers pre-trial/verdict.
End result: Lawmakers said no.

A chic I went to school with back in the early 90's went on the Jenny Jones in like 94-95 time frame. She went on there with her friend bragging about how  they could get anything wanted from men, clothes, shoes, coats, cars, houses etc etc and all they had to do was fuck these guys and get what they wanted. Anyhow a couple yrs later she claimed rape from a local Black Bodybuilder and he was arrested on rape charges. He was arrested and sent to county jail where he posted bail. His life was devastated he lost his job, everyone looked down on him etc etc. He claimed that it was mutual sex with the chic but she was yelling rape cause Dad found out she fucked a black guy.

Long story short the defense attorney subpoenaed the Jenny Jones producer and all video footage of her and what she said. The dude walked free and clear even if he did really rape her the dumb bitches mouth on the jenny jones show got him off!

I've heard that Jenny Jones loves dudes with muscle and would always have them on her show. Melvin Anthony was on the show more than once I believe. Not a fucking hope she will spend a day behind bars. She never identified anyone therefore noone had their name in papers, went through ordeal of court or spent a day in jail (not that false accusers in such cases ever spend a day in jail anyway). She will get a minor punishment, not probation act but probably a suspended sentence at worst.

When I trained as a barrister we were given a talk by someone from Dublin Rape Crisis Centre. We grilled her on punishments for women who falsely accuse and she said fuck all women do it (lie) and no punishment (bullshit). These women deter other women with just cases from coming forward. Rape is fucking deserving of dying in prison in its truest sense, lying about it and diluting it to "I was pissed can't remember" demeans real rape cases.
