I've been dealing with having to grow my shitty calves for years. My quads are pretty big and since my calves never fucking grow the proportion is way off. I've been eternally fucked with having calves that are very short and very high up on my leg, which makes my ankles and the rest of my lower leg look like a twig, compared to other people that have calves with a low instertion point that look better than mine and they never have to train them. I have yet to see one person with calves like this grow them and make them huge. Please can someone prove me wrong with pictures because at this point I don't believe it's possible to grow my type of calves into mammoths.

Exactly. Can't even wear shorts with ankle socks anymore because I almost cry every time I see them in the mirror. I train them 3-5x a week and no results. Soon I am going to give up on ever trying to grow them huge. It's just bullshit how I train them 5x a week at high intensity and have no results yet the 60 year old asian man at the gym has never worked legs in his life yet has mammoths

You either have calves or you dont.
If they are shit after a years training they will always be shit.

Most people who have good calves dont train them all that often.

my calves became monstrous from being obese from ages 7 to 20.
apparently walking around carrying 300+ lbs of fat for years really builds the calves.

yes, but how active are they while they BB?

Check out how many obese tubs of lard you see with massive, diamomd shaped calves.

IMO, it has something to do with lugging all that weight for miles and miles.

When i was obsmese was before i could drivr, so i walked everywhere.

Also, youll see lots of military guys develop impressive calves from years of lugging hundrefs of pounds of gear on them for countless miles.

My observation has been loads of weight coupled with extreme volume.

Im talking, load 120lbs up on top of your normal bodyweight and go fast walk 20miles a day

I changed my calf training approach a few years ago after noticing my old Dads calf were bigger than mine just by walking the golf course 3 times week. I noticed they are the same shape as mine.

I stared doing higher reps20/15/12, with only about 6-7 sets a week. The difference is that I raise them higher than the average ego lifter. Go right up on your toes like a ballet dancer and slowly go down. Do not bounce. Stretch at the bottom. 95% of people use too much weight and don't go up all the way. I can't believe I'm giving calf advises but I have made huge strides by doing this. I thought I was destined to have chicken legs, but now they almost match my upper body. there is hope if you can throw out the ego.

what for?

how often is your calf ever stretched beyond parallel in real life? never. so what makes you think stretching it or even training past parallel makes sense.

it doesnt.

load up the smith machine w as much as you can handle. calf press w your feet on the floor, toes unelevated. you'll be able to use far more functional weight instead of being limited to the weight you use with a motion you never use in real life.

thank me later. you guys should be paying me for this shit.

Insertion points.

It's that fucking simple.

They are too high.

very common, which is why you see people that don't even work out possessing monstrous calves time and time again.

The late, great Mike Matarazzo didnt even train his calves unless someone wanted him to demonstrate... as if

It's the same with EVERY SINGLE MUSCLE BELLY on your body. The closer the insertion to the joint (don't smoke it) the more chance you have of filling that muscle with...

You guessed it: More muscle.

How many times do you have to hear that GENETICS play the biggest part in bodybuilding competition? Are those just becoming meaningless words these days?

You either got it or you don't.

If you were born with narrow clavicles and wide hips.... would you actually ask how to decrease your hip bone width?

I think duck walking accounts for a lot of calves and quad development.  I would NEVER do it, but I notice most people do.  What I mean is they do not walk in a straight line with their feet.  They walk at angles which is totally weird to me and not how I learned to walk.  When I flare my feet out messing around, I do feel it in the quads and calves just from walking.  Its amazing how many people walk incorrectly. Next time you are out and about, notice how people walk.  The overwhelming majority duck walk.  Its crazy really.

I bet a ton of people on getbig duck walk.

i do, absolutley.

Also, my 2nd toe is longer than my big toe, so my feet roll outward slightly and pivot off my 2nd toe, causing all my shoes to get destroyed on the outsides where i put all the pressure.

I think it develops quads and calves though.  What happens if you try to walk in a straight line?

no idea, havent tried it. Ive tries to while i run, and it feels extemely awkward.

I think it does build quads/calves, ive always had comparatively good legs and i barely work them.... i always chalked it up to lugging around all my obese fat as an adolescent.

Calves are my worst body part , I train them twice a week  for about 30 minutes at the beginning of my workout ( not at the end ),  full stretch and contraction, enough  weight  to push the muscles to fail at 15 to 20 reps ,it works for me .

Truth, definitely genetic.
