I heard they were going to create a show/series around Starfleet Academy and the experiences of cadets just before they become officers. Is that still happening? Maybe a series around the junior officers, like the Lower Decks episode of TNG. Could be interesting.
fuck the academy shit, lower decks would be far better of an example.
Smart man you are, lower decks is exactly what they should do.
Also introduce the idea that some of these junior officers are involved with crime families(orion syndicate), connected to intelligence agencies(section 31)
Also bring in the idea that officers are constantly putting themselves in danger. The episodic nature of the show meant only redshirts could die. However if you are doing modern 13 episode seasons it's alot easier to kill off characters.
Sex should be dangerous, if you were to run around the globe having sex with random people everywhere you would expect to get into some kind of trouble, in space this should be even more true. A captain kirk type would eventually catach something, be killed by some alien boyfriend, get busted for sexing a 7 ft tall three year old etc.
Beaming down to a planet is risky shit, people should actually wear some form of spacesuit, get severly burned, lose arms,.
Starfleet officers should be seen as the test pilots of the future. Bring in an element of the right stuff/top gun. Where officers will do anything to get that promotion.
These guys should have alot of competition and traumatic stress issues. Burn out from intense competition should be common, use of performance enhancers even more common.
These young officers should be power hungry, and be shown to do whatever it takes to get power.
