I always laugh when I hear "functional strength".  Most pro bodybuilder can easily deadlift 700 and bench 500.  If that's not strong enough to do your function then you need to hire a forklift or crane.  By the way these guys are way bigger than Jay, they can thank their parents for that.  If you shrunk them down to Jays size they wouldn't be much stronger than Jay.
Remember the vid of Platz squatting 500 for 23 reps?  Well that was part of a competion he had with Fred Hatfield, "Mr. Squat", although Hatfield lifted more poundage than Platz, (he outweighed him by quite a lot) when it came to repping out with 500 he gassed out at 11 reps.

That's a good point but then again, seeing Markus Rhul puffing after 5 reps on the bench has me wondering about how functional it is...

I think sprinters are some of the most functionnal athletes yet they don't carry any extra muscle. And there is something as non-functionnal hypertrophy (sarcoplasm VS sarcomere).

Not sure about that at all. There are some who can, but it's no given and certainly not "easily".

All strength is functional, is it not?

No. Take training on machines for example. Our bodies in no way, shape or form move in isolation  that takes away from stability. Whether it's picking up a bag of groceries or bench pressing 500lbs of free weight.

You do understand the difference in the training at all? The guys pictured are not power lifters but strongmen. Even so, the training in powerlifting is much more intense an goal driven than bodybuilding. In bodybuilding it drugs first...always. Not so with the others and I'm not by any means saying they're clean but it's more training (systematic training) than bodybuilding.

You can't compare how strong a bodybuilder is compared to powerlifters or strongman. Once a bodybuilder is off gear, they're as weak as 2 day old kitten.

is that why you stay on gear year round?

Being butt hurt from the poli board doesn't help your cause. But in answer to your question, I actually train and my use is minimal at best and minimal I mean 1/2cc of test a week. Unlike your Obama, I'm honest. Haven't you been kicked in this balls enough this weekend?

you're not a strongman competitor and you have participated in thong competitions and you stay on drugs year rounds so I give you your own words

That baby probably has bigger arms than most getbiggers.

You could say the same thing about strongmen - take the copious amounts of anadrol, tren, and halotestin out their systems and they'd be lifting a whole lot less.

good point, plus comparing 5'9 Jay to guys who are 6'4 and well over 350 is just ridiculous.  I don't think you could find a strongman under 350.  A big part of their strength is genetics and they should thank their parents for that.

^I'd rather look like Ronnie even if it meant being black.  Seriously if that fat turd, got to a healthy weight he wouldn't even place at a local event.

Please...I've competed once in like 19 years (literally) and that was in 2007 and that was the last time I actually trained specifically for bodybuilding. My training has been geared for strength and not aesthetics (well, a little) I like strongman and powerlifting...in other words I hate the feeling of being weak or training that would make me weak(er).

I'd rather look like this than the Mr. Physique O, or whatever they call it.

Not me, not now. I used to want to look like this, now I just want to look good in clothes and be healthy.

I know plenty of pro-strongman and trained one while he was a WSM competitor. Training comes first and thats the priority of course there are drugs. But I know one person on here that doesn't use gear that trains in SM that would disagree with you. There are too many people on here that discount the training aspect. Those are the ones that actually believe that you can't accomplish anything training wise without gear.

And you're on drugs year round and like you yourself said as soon as you go off you're as weak as a two day old kitten

Why get mad at your own words

You might hate feeling weak but you clearly don't hate the feeling of being stupid.

In fact you seem to revel in it.

You almost seem to have a natural gift at self humiliation
