Hahaha!

People have been crushing Rippetoe in the tnatiin comment section ever since he pushed his last article out to the masses about a week ago. There are literally dozens of US athletes(weightlifters/Olympic style) wanting to tear him apart for criticizing their methods.

Why does anyone give a shit about Rippetoe in the first place? A rambling moron basing his "facts" on heuristics.
Leave the "nerd science stuff" to MD's and people with a PhD in biomechanics.

Mark should tell those olympic weightlifters that they have been doing their squats wrong all these years.

That's exactly what he's been doing. I pulled up the article to do some direct quotes, but they don't do the story line as much justice. So from what I've read, Rippetoe believes that low bar back squatting is the only way to squat because it allows more weight to be moved in comparison to a high bar back squat, even though they serve different purposes in training. Rippetoe goes on to hint that the reason for the United States not placing well in international weightlifting competitions is because their athletes have "weak backs", and will do not train using the low bar method(even though every freaking weightlifter in the world uses high bar...everyone).

Take a look if you have the time. The magic is in the comment section:

Gave up low bar when I started having shoulder pain from it.

Gonna read it now with my morning coffee  ;D

As a prelude: One look at his "starting strength success stories" should be enough to turn 180 and run as fast as you can. Yeah, sure they put on +100lbs in the squat in a couple of months, but it's not really impressive since they also gained that equivalent weight in fat. Most of the people using his ideas starts off as stick twigs and ends up looking like bloated messes. What he doesn't mention is also how much easier it is to pack on weight in the squat with low bar wide stance barely breaking parallel compared to Olympic style squats.

Astonishing rhetorics for convincing the reader that his way of thinking is in accordance with "science" as he puts it.

Quote
You know that picture of the squat you carry around with you, from watching Olympic lifters front squat or doing their "Olympic" squats that are supposed to be more "athletic."

Maybe it came from reading Muscle & Fitness or any of the other newsstand exercise publications at the cash register, while you were waiting to pay for your skinless chicken breasts and rice. Or maybe it was taught to you by an expert CrossFit Level I coach, who thinks that a squat finally "matures" when you can lead with your chest with 185.

You can clearly tell that this rambling moron has never seen the inside papers of a scientific journal.

His "my way or the highway" schtick kind of falls apart when you realize that no champion bodybuilder or weightlifter pays any attention to him, and that for decades huge legs have been built by doing squats the "wrong" way.

I can't stand his "I'm right you're all wrong" mentality.  :-\

Mark melting in the comment section

Silyak: I don't give a shit what weightlifters do. Is this article about Olympic lifters? There are a total of about 200 competitive weightlifters in the United States, and they can put the bar on their backs anywhere they want to, as long as 700+ pounds is loaded on the bar.

highbar squat = more quads, less ass, lower back

lowbar squat = less quads, more ass/lowerback/hamstring

plate under heal = more quads, less ass/lower back

no plate under heal = less quads, more ass/lower back/hamstring

The decision to change/unchange/maintain your bodystructre is up to u!

Yes. So if your purpose is just to move as much weight as you can you widen your stance and lower the bar down your back so you can lower your center of gravity and also use your hips and ass more.
