this is actually becoming quite the issue for young people.  for the first time this year i had to defend referring to a woman as a 'girl' at a halloween party with a bunch of college kids.  she didn't say anything but some twink little indian hipster was somehow offended that i assumed she identified as female.  i know it sounds ridiculous but i'm not making it up.

just yesterday a friend of mine was helping teach a class about secondary victimization (CJ degree) and used an example of how a tranny was being treated by a jaded detective after being assaulted.  while telling the story he kept referring to the person as 'he' and 'she' interchangeably because he didn't know exactly which was correct.  well some chick in the class literally accused him of being ignorant and stomped out of the room in tears.
