And if they were banned where would the criminals get guns from. No one here has a gun not even the criminals, never even seen a hand gun or rifle. To buy an illegal gun on the black market would cost you 15 grand. If you've got 15 Grand, no reason to be a criminal, your a good little saver.
Cops don't have guns here either and guess what they don't get killed either. The gun stock piling criminal is a figment of your imagination.
There are very few guns in Ireland. Access to buy firearms is extremely limited, the people that do have them are almost exclusively farmers or hunting enthusiasts with rifles and shot guns (sorry I am not into guns I cant get too specific) Guns must be licensed and kept in a safe. There are no automatic weapons or handguns/pistols available
Our police service are not armed apart from a special branch called "The Armed Response Unit", if you see these guys around town it usually means they have reason to be around- ie gang feud flare up or some other reason for increased security, the vast majority of cops you see in Ireland will not be armed its somewhat rare to see ARU , depending on where you live.
However almost everyday there is a shooting in Ireland (one) between gangs (mostly in Dublin) firearms are common amongst drug dealers and gangs, machine guns, handguns you name it. People who bring drugs in in large shipments have no issue also bringing in guns (often times they are thrown in for free as sweeteners). I suspect if you know the right people a gun could be got very easily. This is despite strict gun control in Ireland. For aslong as firearms exist there will be guns in every country.
I actually have no interest in guns and am not "pro gun" Im just letting you know, laws dont mean shit and your opinion is naive and overly idealistic. Gun control doesnt keep guns from criminals.
