Bodyweight - getbiggers be the judge
« on: May 02, 2015, 12:04:47 AM »
So, are bodyweight excercises like pushups, triceps bench dips, lunges, pullups totally useless for building muscles or is it better than nothing if you lack that time to get to the gym everyday?

Recently, I'm thinking of incorporating this to my schedule to better my regularity of excercise when I am short of gym time.

I feel like shit going 3-4 days with no gym.

I also heard Jay Cutler is thinking about doing a pullup again.

theyre good, some as good or better than most excercises in teh gym (like pullups)
pushups being the weakest off them (if you allready got good developed chest muscles and are  a regular bench presser it will probably be hard to get much gain from them)

Wide grip chins, getting your elbows right back at the top, controlled decent... Not many at any level can get more than 10 or so reps...

Curl grip chins hit biceps well too.... Dips can be slowed down or have weight added to make them effective.. Lying leg raises to be added to your list, probly the best movement you can do..

If you do them correctly it will turn your whole abdominal region into battery acid, but if you chuck your legs up and down with no thought they will do nothing

Tense your abbs as if your going to do a crunch before you start... Do them off a bench, try them with legs bent, straight etc

You need to be tensing and releasing under control, 15 to 25 reps top

papper: i would get a pull up bar and wall mount it. with that at home one can pull/chin ups more often than the usual once a week protocol, maybe try out negative only pull ups etc i can imagine it doing wonders for the lats. can be used for leg raises too

The push-up not getting any love here. It's a great exercise. Your shoulders and scapula are free to move to assume the most shoulder-neutral position possible. You can alter the tempo to get impressive TUT. You can use rings close to the floor for balance, you can elevate the feet, add resistance with a vest, alternate pulling you knees up to your sides (Spider-Man push-ups) for some anti-rotational "core" ( ::)) work.

I use various types of weighted push-ups as an integral part of my post-shoulder-injury chest workout.

Try RKC plank push-ups. Get in a push-up position, massively flex your glutes, quads and abs. Then do slow push-ups. If done with effort, you'll be gassed at rep #8.

Yes, weighted pushups are my favourite exercise. I usually do them in the stretching area of the gym with all the women. Then I wait for a hot one to pass by and ask her to help me put the weight on my back. And the pick-up starts from there :D

Maybe I should just switch to bodyweight excercises?

Since I am natural I'd probably look the same with pushups and some pullups and curls each and every day, if not a better look.

U can do heavy ass lift with only bodyweight! There is no limit! Try to do the olympic gymnast routine, its only bodyweight :D

And all those out door in the park getto workout!

Only thing u need with barbel is squat and deadlift I think to get a solid strong back and legs...maybe some behind neckpresses to, and triceps excersises...hm...well I think barbell and dumbells does it more for a strong body!

Try this if you're pressed for time.

1 pull up, 2 push up, 3 sit up
Then 2 pull up, 4 push up, 6 sit up
Do this with minimal rest until 5 pull up, 10 push up, 15 situp...then rest a minute between sets, and keep adding in the same increments until you hit 10 pull up, 20 push up, 30 sit up.

Then, run the ladder back down, 9,8,7....

It will be 100 pull up, 200 push up and 300 sit up in a half hour.

I don't know why but that sounds awesome as hell. I will try it.

Is this something Jay Cutler could perform as well? ;D

Buy a couple of Kettlebells, and/or a good Cable set like the Lifeline ones, and add that to it. You can get a lot done with those simple things.

They are useless at building muscle but do help with your strength.  Look at some of the world record pull up guys.  They're just skinny.

Cutler can do it, just the end result is:

0 pull ups / 200 push ups / 300 sit ups

Good luck with the workout - the first drop sets can be challenging after the 10 pullups

If you're geared up anything works well. If you're natty they are useless.

Yes, I always take the time to go up to a good looking mature fella and ask him to spot my ass and my crotch while doing my stretching routine. Trick of the trade learned by Bob Chic.
