I've been elevating my head off the bench lately... lifting it away from the bench, towards the ceiling. It might be wrong, But it feels natural. Is this bad technique?

done it and my neck gets injured often. Read powerlifters drive their heads in the opposite way if not mistaken for neural strength.

I catch myself doing it all the time, I think you should keep your head on the bench

You want to keep the weight on your traps while benching, keeping your head on the bench is better in achieving that.

I'm sure Getbig hates this guy, but he explains what you're saying pretty well at the beginning of this video.

some good tips but he fucks it up when his lumbar is in the air, he should keep the midsection tight and not allow his lumbar to rise from the bench

Elevating your head gives your spotter better access to your mouth.  Preferred technique of gay lifters.

  • I hope I'm not boring you.
The head off bench is also popular with shirted benchers, it helps with adjusting the groove for touching the bar to chest in a shirt.

On the flipside, in addition to what the other video mentioned here, a reflex called Tonic Neck Reflex usually happens when driving the head into the bench, which helps with drive and lock out. A master at this was Doug Young, if you watch his old bench press videos, he keeps his head position very softly on the bench during the decent, on the upward drive you see him really bear down sometimes.

I've always been a neutral head position, flat back guy myself. I find it the most comfortable for normal day in, day out lifting.

My cock is quite small, they need to flick it with their tongue like a clitoris.

Anyone that elevates their head while benching, if seen doing so in my presence, will be the recipiant of 2-3 (possibly repeated for 2-3 more times in rapid succession, if deemed necessary) of my patented headbutts to the bridge of their noses(s) with teriffic force.
