Not really....he did what every other cartoonist and artist did during that time from Walt Disney, Chuck Jones, Tex Avery.  With the exception of Charles Shultz, most of them at one time drew some pretty racist shit.....mainly against the Japanese because of WWII.

At least Dr Seuss repented....not sure about the rest.  Walt Disney however did some pretty racist shit even not too long ago.  One of the Rescue Ranger episode really pissed off a lot of asians
