What do you believe, and this is particularly aimed at those who have lived a bit longer so have lived through various upheavals, is the true state of your nation - from an internal perspective?
Just curious - we get alot of sensationalist press here about the US and very little actual intelligent insight so I was thinking what better way to get an overall balance than ask my dear American getbigger friends (no homo) - just platonic.

For the most part Americans are friends with their own race. Sure all of us have some friends of different color and nothing has changed with us, we are fine. It is the media trying to imply some problem where there is none.

FBI statistics show that violent crime peaked in the 90s and has decreased since then.

Teen pregnancy is lower than ever before.

The poorest of the poor for some reason seem to be able to afford the latest smart phone, PlayStation and/or Xbox.

USA has a black president who is about to complete his second term in office. So civil rights must have come a long way.

Americans are living longer.

The number of wealthy Americans has increased exponentially.

Entertainment is available in so many ways, shapes and forms to the average American that kings of the past would envy.

Food is tastier and cheaper than it was in the past, back when the poor couldn't afford to eat meat.

Americans are no longer building nuke bunkers and having nuke drills like they did during the cold war.

I could go on and on.  People who believe things are worse than ever in America either don't know history and statistics, or don't know how to count their blessings.

I'm speaking in general terms.  Of course there are Americans for whom things are worse than ever, but that would be true for certain individuals in any generation at any point in time.

Economy isn't favoring workers, especially those who aren't high wage earners. Social extremism has been on the increase. Young people don't seem to want to work, drive or pay bills. Otherwise, much of what is left is better.

The media/press lies. It also exposes more than ever before.

During my lifetime things have been worse and they have been better in the U.S. On a personal level, I'm better off in many ways than my parents were. Both my late parents and I would be considered upper middle class. This suggests that we are economically better off now than we once were. The press reports otherwise.  

When I was a kid in school, we had air raid drills where a siren would sound all over the city (Los Angeles) and we students took shelter under our desks. I believe everyone was expected to 'run for cover'. We were just that afraid of war/being bombed. Terrorist attacks were unheard of.

Although buying things (other than real estate) on borrowed money was new, much of the populous jumped at the opportunity to live beyond their means. Not much has change with respect to this over the last 60 years. Banks (the savings and loan scandals) failed in the 60's and again in the 80's and 90's.

People kept their private lives private in the past. These day's no press is bad press. One can become famous, rather than infamous for being in a pornographic video. Transgender people are coming out like flies....in year's past almost nobody knew what transgender meant.

Long story short; many things have not changed as much as some think they have. Perception is everything even when the perception is false. Thanks to the media and the internet, much of the perception of how things are today in the U.S. is wholly inaccurate and greatly sensationalized.

One thing I can say about this countries youth is that they are damn lazy, no work ethic at all, and it's getting worse and worse. I've been a manager on my ship for over 6 years, most of the employees I manage are in their 20's, and they no drive, no ambition, I literally work circles around these people, and to contrast them with my international employees that are here on work permits is like night and day. No matter where they are from Europe, South America, India, Philippines, the Caribbean, Jamaica ...its crazy literally every time I've asked any of the international workers to put in some overtime, without hesitation..it's an immediate yes...compare that to any of the Americans, I ask them to work an extra couple of hours its a moaning, complaining, bitching..it's terrible. When I talk with the workers from other countries, they are constantly joking about these American co-workers, how lazy they are, how the don't care about their work. Theres Filippino women that are in their late 50's in the housekeeping department that out work girls from America In their 20's doing the same job. The Americans constantly going to HR about random bullshit, when I talk with the internationals they all laugh about the Americans running to HR everyday about such trivial things. None of them train, their diets are terrible...when I eat with the international workers, always lots of fruit, veggies, tons of rice , but no sweets, ice creams, or greasy foods. They take pride in their appearance, always groomed nicely, the Americans roll out of bed hair all fucked up, wrinkled uniforms, not shaven, the contrast is staggering. Hopefully Trump can make America great again. And SquadFather can make Getbig great again!

I could write a book on this topic.

I think history plays a key role in the major issues of this country. We never actually sit down root cause analyze and work towards closure here. We ignore history. (mass media control helps to keep us that way but that's another book)

We react to everything. Ask why knowing we really don't care. Knee jerk. Throw various reasons why at the wall and never narrow it down by defining the cause which caused the action which resulted in the effect.

The answer is usually within the history which led to the cause where a decision was made and an action took place. This is applied at work, economic issues, society...anything american.

Again, there is a power that be that wants to keep it that way and they will plausibly deny and wash their hands with everything while controlling everything and continue to push their agenda to present and perceive and make things "appear" the way they want.

It is pretty sad actually because my everyday normal life as an american is nothing like the bs fed via news outlets in these random ass places they seem to happen. Makes me wonder if the shit is even real
