American "Heroes'??
« on: July 18, 2015, 09:23:38 PM »
You know what I might get some hate for this but I don't care. People need to stop glorifying the job that soldiers do. They aren't heroes, they are just a bunch of guys and gals that are trained to kill people or perform some role that aids others in doing so. The US hasn't fought a properly justified war since the 2nd World War, so to call the current generation of American servicemen and women 'heroes' is just plain wrong in my opinion. There is nothing heroic about storming into already poor and destitute countries and causing even more pain and suffering than there was before. That isn't 'saving' anything or anyone. I feel sorry for these men and women whose job it is to carry out our Government's wishes. They are not heroes, they are victims as much as the people they are ordered to oppress; directly or indirectly. The end result being a bunch of severely fucked up and dysfunctional mid to late 20 somethings with no goals in life and no skills that translate over to civilian life.

Killing isn't heroic. Saving a life is heroic and I AM glad that such feats are honored, despite taking place in an unjust theatre of conflict. The rest? Just a bunch of kids who didn't know what they wanted to do with themselves after high school. Don't pity them, they made their choice when they enlisted and drank the cool-aid that the US propaganda machine served them the minute the World Trade Center was destroyed.

These kids aren't defending anything but the US's overseas economic interests.

-I'm an American myself before anyone asks.

It's not the soldiers.  I have great respect for anyone that puts on the uniform of this country.  No complaints with the people who volunteer their time and lives to serve.

The problem is the shit stain pundits feeding the rest of the unwashed masses bullshit propaganda that sending our soldiers over to foreign countries to fight is somehow "protecting our freedoms".  I was unaware of what freedoms we had that Iraq was threatening to take away.  All these years have we lost any freedoms?  Gained any?

Well dumbass..I guess not everybody gets to be a fucking hero. Ive done both combat arms and other jobs in the military and have been trained to both very well. My resume is packed and I won't have any trouble getting a job in my fields plus I'll get a full retirement check....right away. Yeah yeah I know 20 something mal adjusted...no job prospects.....keep telling yourself that as you try to find your manhood.

As for this thread...one of several things comes to mind.

I joined but was kicked out
I served but was kicked out
I was too scared to join
I was to fat to join
My GF was stolen by a Marine/SEAL/Ranger etc etc etc
I'm a big fat fucking pussy....this is my bet

Its obvious by the post that this guy has no idea how the military works, who joins, our life/lifestyle...training etc etc. I don't consider myself a hero..I consider him a pussy.
We're not victims either guy....pay your fucking taxes and shut the fuck up. I don't want nor need a hand out. I also think he got most of this from Salon or some other leftwing douchbag site.

I still think you fit the description: "The end result being a bunch of severely fucked up and dysfunctional" from reading your posts.

You have balls of steel though, kudos.

Dysfunctional...how because I don't like Obama! Why would I like Obama..I'm a friggen con. I'm not a lib...think they're nuts. You're belief system most closly identifies with communism and socialism. You're all about the nanny state and telling people what to believe. You force agenda's, whitewash history, force guilt, destabilize race relations, pick and choose which outrage you'll support. Most of my posts, especially when we talk foreign policy are usually without the aid of any cut and paste bullshit. I'm pretty certain you have no idea what the hell im talking about half the time. But more to the point of the thread....none of you have served. You have no idea the day to day life style, how the system works, how its good or bad...what combat or deployment is like. No idea....

They are absolutely heroic, and the 'killing people' is a tiny portion of what a soldier does.  In fact, most veterans will never even see actual combat.

However they all voluntarily are willing put their lives down should the call come.  And they do an enormous amount of humanitarian work, many sacrificing the holidays last year to help with the outbreak in Africa.  While many Americans were shopping for Christmas, they were establishing medical bases and treating people most don't even want to go near.

Although I don't have exact numbers, in my own experience, they save more lives than they take.  From missions to save boaters out on the sea, to rushing massive amounts of aid to Haiti, our veterans are some of the best people I've ever met.

Those acts of heroism generally don't even warrant a blip in the media.
