LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Four in Your Corner is uncovering breaking developments regarding a triple-homicide in Lehigh Acres Tuesday. Deputies have made an arrest in the murders of a mother, her pregnant daughter, and the daughter's boyfriend inside their home.
Lee County deputies are centering their investigation on a home in the 3500 block of 21st Street Southwest.
19-year-old Brian Hyde, an illegal immigrant from Belize who also lives at the home where this crime happened, had already been in custody ever since he was arrested Tuesday for driving without a valid license. That arrest came hours after deputies say he killed three people: 37-year-old Dorla Pitts, pregnant 17-year-old Starlette Pitts, and 19-year-old Michael Kelly, Jr. All three deaths were the result of "repeated sharp force trauma", say investigators.
" All homicide scenes are normally violent but even for us, this scene was what we consider almost unimaginable," Lt. Matt Sands said.
Starlette's 18-month-old child was found safe at the scene.
He will be charged with three counts of 2nd Degree Murder and one count of Killing an Unborn Child.
According to a sheriff's report, Dorla Pitts was on the phone with her husband Tuesday morning when she entered her home and discovered the bloody scene. Her husband told investigators she screamed out "Brian, what happened here? What happened?" He told investigators the phone then disconnected. A family friend was sent over to check on the family and then discovered the bodies.
Just before the discovery, Fort Myers police pulled over a vehicle with a license plate connected to the Lehigh Acres home. Inside they discovered a man later identified as Brian Hyde, with blood on his clothes and bare feet. Hyde was arrested for driving without a license. Inside the car, investigators found a laptop with blood on it and a full backpack of clean clothes. Dorla Pitts' work ID cards and Hyde's immigration papers were also inside.
Hyde will make his first appearance in court for murder charges Friday morning.
