This includes prescribed stuff like HRT.  I see some pictures on here of guys that aren't even going in bodybuilding shows that look like they are on tons of gear.  Is it so dang easy to get now due to HRT being prescribed and Internet pharmacies?

I also wonder about the economics of the situation and how all these Internet "monsters" pay for their huge dosages.

Or is it all pretty much the same as always but with the Internet it is now more visible and out in the open.

  • The US is the laughingstock of the entire world.
Isn't the trend of HRT even on the decrease already? The topic was huge in the early to mid 2000s with "anti-aging clinics" springing up like mushrooms and all over the media, while in the past few years noone is giving a shit about the "miracle drug" GH etc anymore...

Obviously it doesn't do wonders...

Look around. There arn't more people training now than then really. You can just find the ones who do.

Plenty of guys juice who don't compete. What's the point of competiting anyway. There's no money unless you're at the top. Then you have to deal with the haters and waste time addressing them daily. At least that's what i learnt from Phil Heath.

Competing just ruins your health even more.

And I think the anti aging thing is really just a symptom of following what's "trendy" or whatever some celebs endorse at the time. It's always something and it's always about quick results. But the reality is that even HRT is a long term investment. People want to take a drug and have it fix the fact they hate their lives. But that's not going to happen and it makes swallowing that $299 bill each month too hard.

It will cycle back around in a few years though.

Not so much that I care that they do or don't compete, I was just curious about what the conventional wisdom was regarding availability and usage.  I think overall more people work out in gyms now trying to build muscle.  It's less fringe than it used to be.  While in the 80s maybe more people in gyms used something, now I think the percentage in any gym may be smaller, but there are twice as many people in gyms.  And availability probably affects the calculus also.

the use is beyond rampant now as the fear is gone. But now we see guys with sub par physiques on rather large doses. They will never get far because of that.

The UG scene lowered costs so much, to resist them is kinda hard. 2cc's test per week should make anyone AMAZING.

I work with a personal trainer who takes it all, just name it, to place 13th out of 15 at a NPC show. His prep probably cost him well over 10k. Then, the idiot blamed it on his coach, hired a new one, and currently is in "offseason" mode.

This is the typical situation and cost of doing shows. Insane. To fly yourself and spend money on a show when you could go take multiple vacations during the year with that money is a choice I would rather do.

And not like you can't be jacked, rippped, without doing shows. But most lack the dicipline and need a show to make them follow a diet.

  • I hope I'm not boring you.
It's huge. You just need to look at the physiques now. In the 80's, it was still mainly just middle or high level strength/bodybuilding hobbyist, with a few anomalies here and there. Now lots of models, casual gym rats, etc.... are on something or looking to be on something. Also the hook ups are easier now, sure you could go to Dr. X and get a script in the 80's. But now, all you have to do is fire up your internet connection, I've seen literally 100's go from messing around with one of the stronger pro-hormones to searching out source boards in a matter of months. Also, the info, both good, and bad is more out there freely. No more spending time trying to get in good with a lifting crew or waiting weeks for your copy of the "Underground Steroid Handbook" to show up, now in three or 4 clicks  you're on a steroid board.

Also the whole life extension/HRT end is still huge for all types of things. It's just more genteel than the body building end. There is still a bit of a stigma about hardcore bodybuilding/strength sports with them, but they are still looking for the latest steroid, nootropic, fat reducer, etc.... info or products as everyone else.

X2

The internet has really been the catalyst for a massive surge in usage.

Steroids are much more popular with younger guys than ever. The easy access prohomone era of the last 10 years brought a lot more high school and college age guys into the recreational anabolic scene and set a precedent. Now that most of them are banned as controlled substances, the kids have no issues jumping into real gear to replace the store bought stuff.

I still hear the random kid or 2 talking about creatine or pre workout formulas 'cycling them/or i'm not touching that stuff'lol...the minute those kids get over it and really skip to the real stuff ,they come back next college season or semester up 20 plus pounds/acne all over, dball bloat and never look back ..

It may be more out in the open than it was before.  However gear quality has gone to shit.  Not to mention the attitude of quick, easy results is stronger than ever.  As a result, at least around where I am it is quite different.  I remember going into the gym for the first time 20+ years ago and seeing a lot more serious mass monsters.  Now, I mostly see guys that looked like the never worked out, guys that are lean, but think they are huge, and of course your standard mostly fat guys who call themselves powerlifters.
