Anything is possible. Seems like if they were going to split, it would have happened long before now. Coming from a smattering of experience with long term relationships, I suggest there is a point of no return. Whether it is love that holds people together or familiarity and comfort from the known verses the unknown, some of us are destined to be irrevocably tied to the one love of our lives.
Having lost my wife, I have no desire to have another deep romantic relationship with anyone. My sweet wife was the "love of my life" and there is no other person in my mind who can fill the enormous void she left when she died.
