i tried, but couldn't figure it out in 10 minutes or so, hence gave up

i guess it's pretty simple if you have the right computer?

want to get a garmin and a powermeter, but trying to curb spending for the time being

I've been using it for several years to monitor my cycling.  I find it to be a great tool for tracking progress.
