If this is the type of physique that we have to look forward to gracing the dais, then its no wonder so many of us look back to Zane, Arnold, Reeves, Mentzer, Park, Pearl, Oliva, Paris and so many others. I don't think Haney is all that great (but far better than Heath) and find Yates to be grossly overdone in his pursuit of size but still better overall than Phil.
If others think differently that's fine. The squatty, obese with legs better suited to an elephant emerged with the likes of Yates and turds like Tom Prince. I would call this not so much size for the sake of size but rather size for the sake of sighs. In other words, it's a schmoe world after all. Fetishists.
Since schmoes think with their dicks, I know that I am writing over their heads.
As for the popularity of Heath? A billion flies eat shit but that doesn't make it a Happy Meal.
The majority of complaints I have heard are from people who remember the "Good Old Days" Now which Good Old Days people talk about depends on when you were a big fan. You have the older guys who lament the loss of the Arnold/Zane era and then the people who remember the glory years of the 1990's and talk about that.
I will say I didn't think Phil looked very good at the Mr. Olympia...He didn't really impress the Non Bodybuilding people around as well. Nobody went WOW! I think that's what people are looking for. For me a WOW wouldn't be for size but just for beauty and presence of the male form. That's why I liked Rhoden the best even though his presence isn't good.
My suggestion for the 2016 season is that the IFBB sits these guys down and explain stage presence, stage energy, and looking alive onstage. Also anybody who begs for applause while marching around the stage gets marked down.
