Looks like he's going the Tom Hanks Castaway-route in an attempt to be acknowledged as a serious actor with real acting chops and that he can do more than just play easy action-roles without emotion a la Thor, Huntsman, Cabin in the Woods etc

If you can get paid millions merely be swinging hammers and punching stuff and doing a few lines, why bother be taken seriously as a serious actor? :D
