I posted the sticker in this thread as a joke, but personally, I see no reason for wanting to strive for a better world or a more peaceful world.

It will be out of schools within 50 years. Right now the majority of those who follow Dawkins, Dennet, Krause etc are all under 30, their kids will never know religion from childhood and their kids certainly wont. I give it 50 years before talk of a sky god would be listed as a serious mental disorder requiring the immediate admission to a mental institution.

This really has nothing to do with it being the Quaran.

If it was ANY other book BUT the bible, parents would have complained. If it was a bible verse, saying that the Christian God is the only God, they would have been fine with it. In fact, they would have said she was the best teacher ever!!

Hell, if they were told to copy a quote by the Buddha, such as, "Your purpose in life is to find your purpose and give your whole heart and soul to it," Christian parents would have complained because it didn't come from the bible.

Personally, there is probably a different way to teach world religion than to have them copy down a saying. The teacher could have went about it in many different ways. However, we all the know the truth as to why the parents were complaining.

No doubt she's an idiot. I was just curious if it was in a state funded text book. It's odd,  even for a 20 year old text,  that a company would choose and allow that portion of text to be copied. ...

Don't be fooled. If this teacher would have taught from the Shruti (Hinduism), I Ching (Taoism), Analects of Confucius (Confucianism), or the Guru Granth Sahib (Sikhism), the majority of Christian/Catholic parents in America would lose their shit. Can you imagine little Timmy coming home and telling his mom he read a small passage from the "I Ching?" Holy crap, that mom would lose her shit in a split second.  

The only holy book that probably would have gotten a pass is the Torah. I don't think many of these Christian/Catholic parents would have cared all that much if it was a saying from the Torah. You know, the whole Judeo-Christian God thing.

But, again, any other religious text, other than the bible (and probably the Torah), would be off-limits. Of course, we know why the teacher received such backlash from the Quran. However, similar backlash would have occurred if the I Ching was taught.
