He won his class so he is qualified to compete in a national show but each national show is different. Some are top two in class and others require you win your class.
Thats why there are so many pros now. They give bikini and mens bikini cards out like candy. It used to be you had to win the overall but now its all about money.
the whole system is a mess ,too many cards/weight classes/divisions period...
usa's bbing wise open class you used to have win overall to turn pro that was tough'but usually super or the heavy weight one so it was fine transition to pro's size wise.later on they tweaked it and gave overall plus the 2nd place say a light heavy would go pro to 'that's ok too.times change.
nationals was every class like'today'and they gave an overall same as today as well,but nowadays with 212 a welter/middle/lighheavy can grow into a class,back in the day those lower weight classes had nowhere to go but quit competing..for todays bber that's fine and all but back then a lot of great builds could never go foward that was a shame..
all the other stuff today is overcrowded classes,pushing supp's and advertising to no end ..
