The mouth piece is relatively new to basketball and only in the NBA. Whereas in Football kids have been wearing them since the beginning.

Also in Football it is attached to your helmet so after each play players just let it fall, this is not possible in the NBA.

No shit. It always perplexes me when high level basketball players play shitty defense. All you need to do is stick to you man like glue, put a hand in the face try to block there shots. Most are just too lazy.
