I can remember when you actually had mainstream famous people who went to Bodybuilding shows.  I remember Gregory Hines used to be there.  I can even remember when the guys would actually date models/actresses which brought a little mainstream interest.  Very sad state of affairs.  They could do it with better marketing but that would mean letting up their control on everything.

Yes.  There was quite a following amongst the Hollywood crowd.  Models, Actresses, etc. were involved and dating people in the industry.  My old boss was into it heavily.  That was hilarious now that I think about it.  So straight laced and losing it for oiled up men in thongs.  Those were good times.  That's why the current Olympia showings are so disappointing for many people.  The guys look terrible and there's just no star power. 

That's why people are creaming their pants about Kevin.   He represents that time very well.

I bought Laura Creavalle's recipe book.  I loved both her and Lenda.  Laura, Rachel McClish, and Lenda Murray were inspiring to many women who were hitting the weights.  That's where female bodybuilding should have stayed.  It would still be around.

I don't think the fall of bodybuilding has to do with the guys being bigger. I think it has to do with the fact that there have been less "marketable" white handsome men in the industry. Look at the youtube fitness celebrities like steve cook, calum von moger, jeff seid, etc. These guys are what Hollywood thrives off of. Not guys like Phil Heath and Kai greene. I think Hollywood has a huge role in how people perceive something as a culture. Bodybuilding used to have a mystique and power surrounding it, now its poked at and made fun of by the media as dumbass meatheads who are gay and have "roid rage" and only care about "brotein"

I don't know about that.  The Black guys were pretty popular in the 80's and 90's.  You had Jay Cutler as champ for years and nobody was interested.  He looked terrible as did the rest of the people.  There's always some Great White Hope that comes along like Steve Kuclo who is cute but he isn't doing anything either.

Their lack of marketability is because the guys look terrible. Bloated and terrible.
