Republican Rep. Richard Hanna will vote for Clinton
« on: August 02, 2016, 06:40:01 AM »
Rep. Richard Hanna (R-N.Y.) will cast his ballot for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton this November, becoming the first Republican member of Congress to cross party lines and vote directly against Donald Trump.
"For me, it is not enough to simply denounce his comments: He is unfit to serve our party and cannot lead this country," Hanna wrote in an op-ed for Syracuse.com published Tuesday.

Top Maine Republicans not attending Trump rally

Source: Bangor Daily News

When Donald Trump comes to Maine on Thursday, some big-name Maine Republicans won’t be there.

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins isn’t going. She’ll be visiting her stepdaughter in Idaho.

It appears U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin won’t be there either. Poliquin declined Tuesday to say whether he was going.

However, no answer means a no-show “unless Poliquin plans to be a surprise guest” at Trump’s rally, said Jim Melcher, a political science professor at the University of Maine at Farmington.

Worried GOP tells Trump: Get on message

Source: The Hill

Republicans worried that Donald Trump has squandered a critical stretch of the campaign are urging the candidate to return his focus to the issues that won him the Republican presidential nomination. Trump’s supporters say he too easily falls into traps set by Democrats and the media, and has allowed himself to be blown off course with fewer than 100 days to go before the election.

There is still time to turn things around, they say, but the candidate must stay true to his message of improving the lives of working-class people and rooting out government corruption and the influence of special interests if he’s going to reclaim momentum in the race.

“Hopefully, Donald Trump will soon recognize that if you take the bait every time, you’ll never have a chance to discuss the real issues,” Ben Carson, a former Republican presidential candidate who is now advising Trump, told The Hill.

“We have the upper hand on the economy, education .. and a whole host of things, there is no dearth of substantial issues to talk about,” Carson said. “There is no reason to engage with those who are trying to make this about something else. ... You pivot back to what’s important, you don’t have to take the bait. Learning that is perhaps one of the most important things.”
