If they are a lifetime wear then where is the pair you bought years ago that didn't fall apart?
they were a pair of aisics tennis shoes the tread is gone so theyre slippery but soles are intact

Wesco  does make boots with a standard heel, also check out White's boots, and Nick's also - every bit as good as Wesco- maybe better, White's and Nick's have a patented special arch to their construction , if right for you, they feel like sneakers after being broken in

I have Wesco Firestormers and Jobmasters, I also have White's and Nicks, I prefer the Nick's myself, a little better built I believe, the boots mentioned are all stitch down construction- generally considered a step above welted construction- plus the soles are glued, screwed, and stitched on- they CAN'T come off

A little less $ check out Hoffmans boots -great boot for roughly 1/2 the price- completely hand made in America .... you won't be disappointed  with them, gotta be the best boot value for the $ out there

I have been doing quarry work and logging for 30 years.... have worn pretty much every boot there is   :)

Just my 2 cents on work boots

Thanks for all the info.  I'm on Hoffman's website right now, and I like the prices.  Definitely looks like a good boot.  I also found a boot for Shizzo in their closeout section:

10" Brown - Pole Climber

Ironic that you know this given that you don't work

Good point.

Been considering Wescos/Nicks/Whites but haven't owned them so can't comment.

Currently wear Rocky S2V.  Ups: Very comfy, very light.  Downs: Not a durable sole.  Simply too soft for building site slabs and wears away fast.  It's Vibram, and they had to choose between grip vs durability but I'd prefer more durability.  I can't get quite 2 warm seasons from a pair, so about 12 months life expectancy, which is questionable economy given their price.  Damn, damn comfortable tho.

Can't recommend S2V insulated winter boots with goretex.  Yes, very comfy again but insulation is insufficient for temps even above freezing imo.  Waterproof when they arrived but no longer.  I don't believe in goretex anymore after a lifetime of seeing the shit not perform.  It's just too delicate to last.

Socks: I'm sold on merino wool.  Haven't had a touch of tinnea since switching over.  Never ever going back to cotton socks.
