Why do people get tattoos?

Why not just hang a picture on your wall and enjoy that instead, why use the human body as a flawed canvas? Nothing says low intelligence quite like a tattoo. It's for people with no imagination and no concept of foresight.

why is it a flawed canvas? ink will fade on just about any surface over time. a well done tattoo should stay in good condition for 10-15 years, then when it does fade you can have it touched up/refurbished.

i guess you are also one of those pussies that says "just think what it's gonna look like when you're old and your skin is all wrinkled"....well you're gonna like sht then anyway without tattoos.

if you think you can get a read on someone's intelligence because they have tattoos, then you've obviously led a very sheltered life and are probably a bit of a fag by all accounts.

i'm not talking about shty generic tribal bands or clowns with tats all over their face but good quality artwork.

I got a tattoo near 30 years ago when I was in the Marine Corps. Seemed like the thing to do and thought it was really cool. Had a bunch of biker friends as well that liked it. At the time tattoos where not trendy like they have be come. When I came home on leave there was no one that had them outside of other service men. Now they have become over done and ugly. Today I cannot think of a single reason to get another one. I do not regret the one I have.

I never understood why black people get tattoos.
You can't see the tatts clearly, and they never use lighter colours....why don't they got white coloured tatts ?

Problem is today people don't ask real people for advice.  They go to facebook and ask if they should get a tattoo and get 10 likes and do it but Facebook doesn't have a thumbdown feature so in reality they'd probably have 20 thumbs down and 10 likes.
