Bodybuilding's best era started in the early 90's (1991/1992) and went until the early 2000's (2001/2003).

Better question: What was the BEST year in bodybuilding?

i dont recall any bloated bodies

I remember seeing some pics of Mohammed Benaziza in the early 90's where I thought it was strange how his abs were pushed out.  Shortly after that more bodybuilders started showing signs of stomach distention, and nowadays it's almost the norm.

Hack, on this one occasion, I will try to zzzsimply respond with a singular "Yes!" But I do need you to understand that I really could respond with a much more interesting reply if called upon to do after having worked and trained with over 90%of every bodybuilder mentioned on this site since Reeves was 18 years of age,  every Olympic lifter since the Hawaii team beat the Russians, a vast number of worldwide powerliifters since it was affectionately known as odd lifting, every fitness/muscle magazine owner/publisher since Hoffman and Perry and Mable, etc., etc., etc.

So "Yep!" .... I gotta type it all cause there are too many words inside and it's getting too dawn heavy to carry nowadays.

Who the he'll told you I like to type?

But you do have to admit that I usually stay within the topic of the lifting game .

I would also say 1993.

Some great competitors in 1993 but not all were at their best. Dorian was out of this world and changed the game forever and Flex was amazing (slightly off from early in the year though). Shawn was great. Lee Labrada was as good as he was ever going to get. Kevin was penalized for being about 6 pounds too heavy according to the judges and Paul Dillett was a 269 pound mass monster who couldn't hold a pose and had no back. There were MANY other amazing physiques that year like Charles Clairmonte, Sonny Schmidt, Andreas Munzer, 320 pound Lou Ferrigno, Milos Sarcev and even tiny Flavio Baccianini. Great year and the start of what was to come (Nasser, Ronnie Coleman, Lee Priest, Mike Francois, Chris Cormier, Pavel Jablonicky, Jean Pierre Fux, Roland Cziurlok, Ian Harrison, Markus Ruhl, Dexter Jackson, Orville Burke, Dennis James, Gunter Schlierkamp, Craig Titus, Darrem Charles, Melvin Anthony, etc)..

It was the 1940s and 1950s. Real men, real muscle, no drugs.

You could go to Doctors who knew how to direct cycles for minimum sides and could write prescriptions...
