« on: November 13, 2016, 12:52:31 PM »
i admit i dont have a micro wave, ive been considering buying one, i assume most have one. but i cant really find a good reason for one

oatmeal i dont need a microwave for that
i dont drink tea or coffe but if i did i can just boil water
rice i got a rice cooker
pasta i boil that

when are you suppose to use a micro wave ? just to warm up stuff that you cooked before? or those frozen dinners? and it takes up a lot of space

It is.  The only things its good for really is melting chocolate and butter.

The other uses are to heat water fast, dry some herbs, steam vegetables if desperate.

Other than that, completely useless really.

Oatmeal
Reheating Chicken
Better way to reheat chicken:

Heat water to 170.  Put Chicken in Ziplock bag and get all the air out.  Put Chicken in water and wait, 15-30 minutes or so.

Will taste like the day it was cooked.

Nope, it won't be at an even temperature all the way through.  20 seconds will further cook the outside and you will have a disgusting, rubbery mess on your hands.

You probably suck at cooking anyways so it doesn't really matter though.

I use an infrared toaster oven to reheat everything. Don't even use it. Even popcorn I make stove top.

Let me know when you want to make these.  I can make you get them right in about 1:45 seconds every single time.

The problem is that people approach cooking without any real thought of what they are doing or what they want to accomplish.  The goal should be results that are repeatable with no variation.  That way you get EXACTLY what you want and you never have to wonder why something did not come out.

You wouldn't build a house just randomly nailing boards to other boards and hope what is built is a standing house.  Same thing with cooking or anything really.

It's great for making quick easy scrambled eggs but to be honest nothing tastes as good out a microwave vs conventional cooking, even something as basic tinned soup tastes better heated in a pan rather than microwave

I use my microwave for mostly steaming although I've used it to make instant grits and oatmeal.  However, there's nothing like good old stove cooking.  Of course, I personally think that the best cooking I ever tasted actually came from a fireplace....I shit you guys not.  I had a buddy who did everything from a fireplace in his cabin with a dutch oven.  Soups, stews, pizza, bread, etc.....it was freaking awesome.  He did it all.

At the end of the day, it's not a major investment. I'd rather have one than not, even if I don't use it much.

10 frozen fish fingers take 3 minutes, 1 minute for a pot of microwave beans and of course reheating last night's Indian and Chinese takeaway.

RATHERBE .... MAYBE THIS WILL CHANGE YUR MIND ....

To refresh the scent of ground spices and seasonings, heat them at full power for thirty seconds.
If you wrap up stale bread in a paper towel and warm it up to full power for one minute, the bread will once again be as fresh.
Almonds are easy to clean, if you put them in boiling water and warm up for thirty seconds at full power.
Walnuts are easy to peel, warming them in water for four – five minutes at full power.
Orange or grapefruit are easy to clean from the white flesh, if they warmed up for thirty seconds at full power.
It is easy and quick to dry the peel of oranges and grapefruit in the microwave. Put it on a paper towel and warm up to full power for two minutes. During the warm-up peel should be mixed. After cooling, it becomes dry and brittle.
Store the dried peel in a tightly sealed container.
Microwave help squeeze the juice from a lemon or orange to almost drops even very thick peel of citrus fruits. Heat the fruit for a few minutes in the microwave, let cool and you can easily squeeze out the juice from them.
Greens, vegetables, and nuts and crackers can be dried for winter in a microwave oven.
You can melt the sugared honey for 1-2 minutes.
You can beat the smell of worn-in cutting boards. They have to be washed, rubbed with lemon and put in the microwave.

And you can do some amazing stuff with shoe polish
