Treadmill calories? Accurate?
« on: November 29, 2016, 04:47:10 PM »
Just got back in to reading so I got on the treadmill while on business trip here in UAE with a book, and before you know it I walked 50 minutes at a 6 incline, at 3mph. According to Online calculators, this burned about 500 cals!? is that right? i barely broke a sweat, but if that calorie count is correct, im all for doing this daily!

You have to get new ideas... The calorie math is poisonous to the mind.

That said I'd be curious to compare it to a face mask calorimeter... I feel like someone could make a big YouTube video or documentary just going around comparing estimates of all kinds to the calorimeter readings.

The calorie burn total on these machines has a margin of error of 10-30%.

Yeah I still estimate though I try to think about it less every day, if I could be rid of the habit I would.

During the day I have protein bars and fruit, ~1500 cals.  At night I have pasta, veggies and fake meat, ~2500-3000 cals.

I remember a time when I could just feel stuffed, exhausted at the prospect of another bite after eating a 'normal' amount of food.  Actually I ate very little and was always very lean when I was younger.

After years of force feeding the instincts wore down, they're just a faint echo of what they used to be... I can eat up to 5k in a sitting at any given moment.

Anyway thong, have you considered doing a vo2max test?  They'll put you through many stages of intensity and measure the fat/carb and total calorie burn at each.  Do it a couple times and you can probably put these questions out of your mind forever.

1. what is your dinner consisting of? half a pack of uncooked pasta is like 800 cals. where is the rest coming from?

2. have you done the vo2max test? i will look into that for sure

pasta 250 grams
2 packs of fake meat: 750 - 800 cals
Broccoli 300-500 grams
Carrots 200 grams
Low oil marinara 3 servings or so (200-250 cals most brands)
Eggplant or 250g mushrooms
Couple handfuls of spinach

This is just what I've been eating lately.  I seem to switch it up every couple weeks.

Sometimes I just eat a box of high protein cereal, a bunch of protein powder or peanut powder, chopped fruit and soy milk for the same # of cals but less volume.

I haven't done the vo2mac test but always wanted to.  Just not a high priority.  Plus I would probably feel bad if I got too low a number, lol.
