This is one of the plot points in A&E's Bates Motel, which is a re-telling of the classic Alfred Hitchcock film Psycho. It's not even the craziest thing about the show, but it was one of the crazier things that happened in the last episode I watched.
The show actually just wrapped up after 5 years last week, but it barely even registered with me. Wifey and me started binging it about 3 weeks ago after some friends strongly recommended it. It is a completely wild ride.
It's setup as the backstory of how Norman Bates got to the point in the movie and starts when he is in his teens and his mother just purchased the motel. He has this completely dysfunctional/ co-dependent relationship with his mother and they destroy the lives of literally everyone they come into contact with. The town has this huge secret that it's basically built on drug money, so this kinda facilitates Norman's murderous side coming out. The performances are really great- especially the two lead actors who play Norman and Norma (the mother).
Anyone else check this out?
