I read an article on this in the wsj yesterday I'll see if I can find it. They described 5 people who received it and how it impacted their lives  two were in Africa and they both received about &600 each and both built homes with it. One was an failed entrepreneur with 6 kids in Finland who said he would start another business with the money he got and how it allowed him more time with his kids. The one in the US was a writer in New Orleans and was receiving about $1,000 a month and said it allowed him more free time to be with family and enjoy himself.

My thoughts are if I'm working harder and more hours than you are to provide you with more free time or to support your six kids, wtf?

Who pays for it?

Depends on where it is, here in the US I believe it is all privately funded at the moment but these are experiments to see what the effect is and is already being pushed by the media and political pundits.

Some govts Finland for example are doing their own experiments where they're paying 2000 citizens ubi

Kids would never leave their parents' basements.  35 years old and still fiddling the xbox controls.  It would be good for the smartphone market, though.  Same for Pizza Hut and Domino's.

I find the idea silly at best. That's not to say that I don't think such a system could be made to work; it probably could, at least for a while, given enough sacrifice and subjugation of the populace. I wouldn't want to live under it.

Ultimately, unless the State forced people to work—at which point let's just agree we will be slaves—what incentives would people have to actually work?

Always found it something, how wealthy "philanthropic" types seem to gravitate toward doing their "nice stuff" in such a way as to promote increases in 3rd-World population.  IMO, they see things as a tug-o-war between 1st-World ideas and 3rd-World ones (accurately, I'd say) and you can see which side they're rooting for.

In the end, they are absolutely NOT on the side of the common human-being.  But of course, Monsieur, they will continue to take all things at once by flying their "I'm a Philanthropist!!!" flag.

The main idea behind UBI, though, is that simple reality says most of us will be "unneeded" soon enough.  The percentage required to "keep us running" will continue to shrink, and a very high percentage of humans will be dead weight in a practical sense.

Though, IMO, if you're concerned that you'll be one of the remaining few "paying" for everyone else (since we know Gbers are irreplaceable in any environment), you can relax.  The place will get will get turned on its head long before any widespread UBI happens.  We'd have seen serious attempts at population-settling, and from long ago, otherwise.  The fact is that we've seen the opposite, which most certainly can't be viewed as a good sign.

You have a federal reserve that has a printing press which can print as much money as we please. Why not just print out $1 million for everyone and all our problems will be solved, right?

Economically illiterate people might tell you otherwise but the only way to increase wealth is via increased marginal productivity. People have to create more useful stuff. That's why ghettos are shit holes. The people there don't do anything of value.

All of these redistribution schemes might have a few successful examples and they usually start out well but they invariably end in misery. Take a look at Venezuela. It was only a few years ago every genius libtard was telling us how great it was there.

Not anymore.

While we're at it, why stop at humans? Let's extend this basic income experiment to all living beings. American black women have a 57% obesity rate, meanwhile fish spend the whole day swimming around not knowing where their next meal is coming from and always worried about being eaten by a bigger fish. Don't they deserve a better life?

Hawaii just became the first US state to pass a bill supporting basic income — here's the man behind it
