« on: December 03, 2017, 09:02:41 PM »
Go to see some fights Friday night out here in Los Angeles, at the MusclePharm headquarters....

Pretty cool, the fighting style was interesting...

The main fight was Eddie Cummings (Renzo Gracie) vs Jacob Sandoval (Cobrinha BJJ
    (155lbs Black Belt NOGi)

Jiu-Jitsu is very valuable, because when the fight is over in Jiu-Jitsu, it's over - unlike in wrestling for example (if you get pinned, there are many things you can still do to beat the guy who pinned you).

In Jiu-Jitsu, when the fights are finished, they are finished.

However, for those of us who work out and are strong - my suggestion is to just pick up decent wrestling and ok striking - you/we/those of us lifting 315/405/495 or more, will still be stronger than 99% of the population in a fight.

If you have time to get more involved in combat sports - great.  But many of us do not.  Also, I prefer strength training, even though it is not as useful in self-defense as fighting.  At the same time, how many normal people would challenge pro bodybuilders?

I learned a lot - and yes, armbars were the most common way to get someone to tap out.   Although some of the fights lasted the whole 7 minutes???  this was the first time seeing this live. The place was sold out, but we get a front row seat at the table.

They also called some of the top fighters 'professors', which is a term over the last decade used for competitors that teach, have second degree black belts, and have been in the sport for over 10 years, it seemed like (from a friend that was there telling me all this).

totally useless form of self defence in a street situation (thats when you need self defence) you will get kicked and stomped to fuck.
Attackers are never on their own.

I was into bjj but it takes too much time and toll on body. and as some said, in the street you will get stomped the fuck out if you pull guard. Nevertheless, some of the baddest mfers I know are into BJJ.

It is nice as a addition to street fighting when the other guy tries to wrestle with you - you can use bjj to get back up and get advantageous position.

I go once a week for no gi, just to have some fun. and keep boxing as my main combat sport. also do deadlifts, squats, C&J, weighted dips/ chins etc. I also have 9mm firearm, tactical knife and a knuckle duster (what word lol) on me 95% of the time.
