Jiu-Jitsu is very valuable, because when the fight is over in Jiu-Jitsu, it's over - unlike in wrestling for example (if you get pinned, there are many things you can still do to beat the guy who pinned you).
In Jiu-Jitsu, when the fights are finished, they are finished.
However, for those of us who work out and are strong - my suggestion is to just pick up decent wrestling and ok striking - you/we/those of us lifting 315/405/495 or more, will still be stronger than 99% of the population in a fight.
If you have time to get more involved in combat sports - great. But many of us do not. Also, I prefer strength training, even though it is not as useful in self-defense as fighting. At the same time, how many normal people would challenge pro bodybuilders?
