I guess the difference is those domestic animals you mentioned are capable of affection and company with their owners, while pigs, chickens, cattle and other farm animals only exist to breed, eat, shit, and sleep on the farm premises, though unlike wild animals they can't survive without human assistance. If humans didn't keep them around for the food industry, they'd have gone extinct by now due to predation.

Farm animals are like dogs and cats only when they are also pets. To be honest, I would give up eating meat if I had to kill an animal to get it. This is hypocritical, I know. For me, it is easier to disassociate packaged meat from the living animal.
