Coming to LA
« on: May 12, 2019, 11:59:25 AM »
Im coming to LA, land Sat afternoon and leave Tuesday night. For a work conference. Staying in Palos Verdes. Is it worth going up to Venice beach/ Golds Sat night? Or Sunday morniong/ lunch? Or should I go elsewhere? Can you get a bus up the seafront? Anywhere to rent surfboards? Thanks

Training at Golds is not worth it. Nothing special. I trained there a lot of times. Weights are weights.

Isn't it like $40 for a one day pass now?

I don't know, but the days I trained there, I paid 25-30 to train for the day and that was back in 2014.

I imagine the homeless just sleep on the beach.

I would pay 40 dollars just to get to know the place, but some people always complain

If you enjoy lifting you really have to see that place at least once. It's well worth it.
I've been there a few times and never once regretted it. Just pay it and go.

exactly

Manhattan beach isnt that far away.

again if you are into lifting - totally worth it.

yes it is $40.00 but hell a drop yoga session is $20 at most studios and that does not even include mat or towel rental

go early Saturday morning
bring a bag, a lock, change of clothes (you can always lock up your items at the golds gym locker room on the second floor)

1. take an uber to venice beach, go train at golds
2. rent a bike, ride a bike up and down the pier/boardwalk also check out santa monica and Maybe Marina Del Rey
3. go rent a surfboard
4. eat some beach food

all of this can be done on a saturday and you will love it

I past through last week and made the $40 day pass work. Just went early and trained and went back in the afternoon but i was staying santa monica. Even if you train go eat and go back train again. No way could I justify paying $40 just for one workout. The front counter people are a mix to, one of them said he couldn't charge me the $40 being a previous member , the next day i paid in the morning and the other jerks tried not to honour the day pass later in the day , don't mind paying even where its unreasonable if you can make it work but some of the front counter people there currently shouldn't be there. Its not like they train. The mEcca isn't the mecca anymore but still hard not to go when in town.

Before Golds in Vegas sold to EOS Fitness a few years ago, My membership  allowed me to visit any gym in the country x amount of times a year--or maybe it was unlimited--I don't remember. But every time I went to Cali I went to Gold's Venice. If it were 40 bucks, I'd still pay it because it's just that cool.
