The only cheap used suv around that price I would recommences is the Ford Explorer. My buddy has two of them one was a 1997 and drove it to over 300k and then he had a 2004 and he got that to 250k.Then another guy who worked for me had one and it had over 300k.They seem to run forever from what I’ve seen.

Until your plastic timing chain guide breaks. Happens on 80% of them and it's on the back of the engine and you have to pull it to fix it and need special tools to hold the cams to set the timing when you change them because there are no markings, those tools are $180 used.

Ive done a lot of them, explorers are garbage.

I'd recommend a 03+ trailblazer if you are capable of small repairs, they got a bunch of random tiny problems, but nothing major unlike explorers

Reliable and "under 4k" do not belong in same sentence.

Any of the GM family Tahoe/suburban Yukon/xl or Escalade/esv etc... if under 175k miles they are easily to 250 but prefer 2003/06

Jeep Patriot with a 5 speed manual.

I bought a 2016 jeep Patriot with a 5 speed manual - base model and I love it for a daily driver. paid $15k - car had 10k miles on it.

i bought it in jan 2018 (1 year) no issues around 26k miles on it. love this car - so simple, so practical

looks good, the 5 speed keeps it nice, will age well. there are several jeep patriots 200k miles on them.

i needed a simple small SUV daily driver and the jeep patriot has a been a big winner. a daily driver should be very simple. my roush convertible was my weekend baby. I am not a fan of expensive or flashy daily drivers! get a simple daily and use the money for your FUN car purchase.

here are some patriots for sale - randomly pulled via craigslist
