Just used a Weightlifting Belt for the first time....
« on: May 22, 2019, 08:13:26 PM »
I can't believe how much of a joke it is compared to lifting without.  All of the heavy lifts are so much easier and you are less fatigued by far.  I feel almost rather foolish lifting for so long without using one.

Do you guys lift with one and which one do you use?

Only on heaviest sets. Rarely use one. What brand did you try?

A cheap Golds Gym one.  I'm looking to get one now.  I was surprised how my lifts instantly shot up.  I also think it corrected some imbalances I had on form.  Looking at Amazon, they have one called Dark Iron Fitness with like 4000 plus reviews.  I wonder if that one is any good?

Got a link for the Inzer?

http://www.inzernet.com/search_results_belts.asp?txtsearchParamTxt=&txtsearchParamCat=8&txtsearchParamType=ALL&txtsearchParamMan=ALL&txtsearchParamVen=ALL&txtFromSearch=fromSearch&iLevel=1

I use the dual buckle belt, a buddy uses the lever style. I will say I ordered the wrong size at first and Inzer sent me a new one before I sent the wrong one back. Great customer service. I only use it for heavy squats and deads, maybe rack pulls sometimes.

I use a lower back brace support on certain exercises now since I have a slipped disc/pinched nerve the I am healing.  Moving forward I will never do exercises that put the spine in danger without using it.

I used a belt for years when I lifted heavy.  Now I just do either high reps or slow the reps down with lighter weights so no.

I would recommend using a nylon belts not leather belts because nylon forms to your back leather belts typically leave a gap so less support

I lost interest in them.  I think they're very good for certain things, but I never enjoyed lifting with them and basically lazily relying on the ultra tight belt to augment my poor form.  That won't work for everybody, of course - and it may be necessary at the absolute limit of your capabilities - but I personally have no qualms in one rep maxing without a belt.  I've been through a long time of learning what feels right for me.

Rarely use a belt anymore even for squats, standing presses, deadlifts, or anything else.

Years ago I always wore one for everything.  I used to wear knee wraps to squat also but don't now.

You can definitely lift more with a belt.

Mentally they become a crutch.

it can for some but better safe than sorry keeps the lower spine in check always seems to be the lower back that people complain about how often do you hear someone says ''man my upper back is sore'' also you need to do abs the stomach muscles connect to the lower back

Never use.

Not even for squats and DLs.

What I am finding is that using a belt is causing me to be MORE conscious of my ab control.

I`d recommend using one on heavy movements............... if not, you`ll most l;ikely pay for it later on in life if you really train heavy and hard.

The purpose of a belt is to give you something to create pressure against when you do the valsalva technique.

However, if you acclimate to training without a belt you learn to create pressure and stabilize the spine/abdomen.

If you are doing maximal lifts it's probably wise to use a belt.

Do belts prevent injury?  Doubtful and not the purpose of a belt anyway.

Definitely agree on this.

My last 4-5 attempts (probably once a year) with a belt have been terrible failures.  I'm worse with the belt.

Essentially, the imperfection of the belt fit causes me to try to use a foreign way of stabilisation (allowing my abdomen to distend more than I would in an unbelted lift).  I could get used to it, but I'm not getting any particularly large aid from it.

I use to use a belt from the moment I entered the gym.  Now I never use it. You have Olympic lifters putting 500lbs and more over head without a belt. I'm pretty sure you don't need it for a 500lbs deadlift. Powerlifters use everything they can to lift more like knee wraps, belts, bench shirts and deadlift/squat suits.
