Larry Wheels' fall with 793 lbs squat in 2017
« on: July 09, 2019, 12:12:19 AM »
Man you gotta feel bad for Larry here in this video.

I read up on him and he had a lot of setbacks in his younger years...

"Larry Wheels stated how his father left him at the age of one year old and how his mother got in a physical altercation with a boyfriend at age six, which resulted in him living with his grandmother. However, he was too much for her to handle as he was out of control and he eventually ended up in foster care from 11-12 years old.

Larry Wheels was soon back in his mother’s care of where they relocated to Saint Martin (Island). This is where his passion for weightlifting began as he used a broomstick and cinderblocks to start training. After living in St. Martin for a few years, he moved to New York City where he is originally from.

From that point on Larry Wheels was involved with hard drugs and alcohol when he was influenced by an older friend he met at a gym.

He said he looked at his friend as a father figure; however this soon turned out to not be the case. Larry Wheels became addicted to drugs at age 16 and had a wakeup call when he saw his friend going down a bad road."

Hopefully he recovers well from the biceps injury. I read that it is still attached to the tendon which is good. I would like to see him do well in the future strongmen competitions and he will be good for the sport as far as exposure goes.

Jean-Pierre Fux?

Is that pronounced fucks or foo?

Getbigger A: "No Fux given about his squat injury."
Getbigger B: "I pity the Fux!"

Yes and he had no spotters! Lund really fucked him by egging him on to go that heavy for his shoot.

Yes and he had no spotters! Lund really fucked him by egging him on to go that heavy for his shoot.

In the same year, Don Youngblood, who was 48 years old at the time [I wonder if he had any awareness that he had only three years left to live], was bench pressing 585-lb for a Chris Lund photoshoot with 585-lb on the bench press, in between his 2002 Master's Mr. Olympia win, and before his 2002 Mr. Olympia entry, and tore his triceps.

He later said a 405-lb bench would have looked just as impressive [he was near contest shape, after all], and he regretted trying 585-lb, which was his max. He also said he considered it a career-ending injury, but someone on Mayhem e-mailed him in 2005, and Don said he planned to compete at the 2006 Night of Champions, which got renamed to The New York Pro when Wayne Demillia left with the name...right around the time Don passed away in May of 2005, one month after turning 51.

Proof that being able to afford good gear can have you in competition shape over 50...but isn't the wisest idea. Especially given that Don was diabetic, had sleep apnea, and had undergone angioplasty.

But I digress.

Orville Burke also had a Chris Lund career-ending injury in 2002.

It was mentioned that Wheels was a drug addict as a youth.

Wheels is still addicted to drugs.  He just switched drugs.

There comes a point when you have to take responsibility for your life and actions.

Wheels is coming to a point in his life where he will have to decide in what direction he will go.

With the torn bicep his days as an internet strongman may be ending.

He hoped to enter WSM.  Was this realistic with his frame?

What will he do if it doesn't work out?

Well said.

Also who's an addict at 16 and is clean by 18? The addiction is usually a lifetime struggle, switching from "party" drugs to "lifestyle" drugs is a bad idea for an addict.

But it makes for a great backstory.
